The Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) is a national-level entrance test conducted by IIT Roorkee for candidates seeking admission to the 5-year B.Arch programme at select IITs. The AAT is a paper-based drawing test of 3 hours duration in English medium. It covers five sections: Freehand Drawing, Geometrical Drawing, Three-Dimensional Perception, Imagination and Aesthetic Sensitivity, and Architectural Awareness.
The test is subjective in nature and evaluated by IIT Roorkee's panel. There is no public answer key. The result declares only qualifying status - 'Qualified' or 'Not Qualified' for B.Arch.
Key Facts:
Not every JEE Advanced qualifier can appear for AAT. The eligibility is strict:

Exercises in geometrical figures - lines, angles, triangles, quadrilaterals, circles. Includes plan (top view), elevation (front view), and side view of simple solid objects like prisms, cylinders, cubes.
Understanding and appreciation of 3D forms, their elevation and plan views, visual analysis of 3D objects. Building simple 3D objects from memory and imagination.
Composition using given elements, context mapping, creativity test through abstract drawing, sense of colour and its application.
General knowledge about famous architectural works, places, and personalities - both Indian and international. Includes awareness of national monuments, famous buildings, architects, and architectural styles.
Preparation Tip: Sections 1–4 require daily sketching practice. Section 5 (Architectural Awareness) can be prepared through reading and general knowledge about famous buildings and architects.
Only 3 IITs offer B.Arch programme through AAT:
| Institute | Programme | Approx. Seats |
|---|---|---|
| IIT Roorkee | B.Arch (5 years) | ~42 seats |
| IIT Kharagpur | B.Arch (5 years) | ~40 seats |
| IIT (BHU) Varanasi | B.Arch (5 years) | ~15 seats |
Note: The AAT result only declares Qualified/Not Qualified. Final B.Arch seat allotment depends on your JEE Advanced AIR rank and JoSAA counselling choices - not AAT score.
The AAT 2026 results will be declared on June 7, 2026, at 17:00 IST on the official JEE Advanced website.
Clearing AAT only makes you eligible for B.Arch - it does not guarantee a seat. Here is what happens next:
