  • Essay writing and English comprehension, including precise writing, are meant to check your ability to express ideas clearly, understand written content, and summarise information properly.
  • In the essay section, you will write on a given topic in a clear and well-structured way.
  • For comprehension, you will read a passage and answer questions to show how well you understand it.
  • In precise writing, you will need to shorten a passage by keeping only the main points and writing them in fewer words.
  • Candidates who pass Tier I move on to Tier II, which is a descriptive paper worth 50 marks. It must be completed in 60 minutes and is conducted in pen-and-paper format.
  • This stage checks your English writing skills. It includes essay writing (usually worth 20 marks), reading comprehension, and long-answer questions. These questions are often based on current affairs or social, political, and economic issues.
  • To pass Tier II, you need to score at least 33%. Although it is a qualifying stage, your Tier II marks are still counted in the final selection, along with your scores from Tier I and the interview (Tier III).
