3. Busiest Airport in the world in 2022

  • Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has been ranked as the ninth busiest airport in the world in 2022.

  • IGI Airport had secured the 13th position in 2021 and the 17th position in 2019.

4. Human Development Index (HDI) 2021

  • Topped by:

  • Human Development Index- Indian Scenario

    • India ranked 132nd among 191 countries and territories on the 2021 Human Development Index (HDI).

    • In the 2020 report, India had ranked 131st among 189 countries and territories.

  • Human Development Index- Asian Countries

    • Sri Lanka (73rd), China (79th), Bangladesh (129th), and Bhutan (127th) are ranked above India.

    • While Pakistan (161st), Nepal (143rd), and Myanmar (149th) are worse off.

5. India ranks 5th in countries with most AI investment

  • Stanford University’s AI Index report states that India is ranked fifth in terms of investments received by startups offering AI-based products and services in 2022.

  • India is still behind the US, China, the UK, and Israel in terms of AI investments received.

  • AI startups in India received a total investment of $3.24 billion, surpassing countries such as South Korea, Germany, Canada, and Australia.

6. National Manufacturing Innovation Survey 2023

  • Released by: Department of Science and Technology

  • Karnataka, followed by Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Haryana as high innovation states.

  • Uttarakhand has the highest score among the hill states, while Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu has the highest score among the UTs.

  • Apart from Northeastern states, low-performing states include Jharkhand, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

  • Odisha, Bihar, and Jharkhand reported the least share of innovative firms at 12.78 per cent, 13.47 per cent and 13.71 per cent, respectively.

7. World Press Freedom Index 2023

  • Released by: Reporters Without Borders (RSF)

  • Five sub-indicators include the Political indicator, Economic indicator, Legislative indicator, Social indicator, and Security indicator.

  • Top 10 Countries in the List:

    • Norway, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Portugal, and East Timor

  • Bottom 10 Countries in the List:

    • North Korea (180), China (179), Vietnam (178), Iran (177), Turkmenistan (176), Syria (175), Eritrea (174), Myanmar (173), Cuba (172), and Bahrain (171)

  •  World Press Freedom Index 2023: India

  • India has slipped to the 161st position out of 180 countries in the 2023 World Press Freedom Index.

  • India is ranked worse than all other countries except for China, Mexico, Iran, Pakistan, Syria, Yemen, Ukraine, and Myanmar, with Myanmar having the lowest ranking.

  • Pakistan ranks ahead of India at 150.

8. Logistics Performance Index 2023

  • Released by: World Bank

  • India’s rank in the 7th edition of the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index 2023 has improved by 6 positions.

  • It now stands at 38th among 139 countries.

  • Logistics Data Bank project by NICDC, which involves the use of RFID tags on containers and has been implemented in the Western region of India since 2016

9. India's first-ever Census of Water Bodies

  • Ministry of Jal Shakti has released the first-ever Census of Water Bodies.

  • West Bengal has the highest number of water bodies in India, while Sikkim has the lowest.

  • Out of 24.24 lakh water bodies in the country, 97.1 percent or 23.55 lakh are in rural areas, and only 2.9 percent or 69,485 are in urban areas.

  • Ponds account for 59.5 percent of the water bodies, followed by tanks (15.7 percent), reservoirs (12.1 percent), water conservation schemes/percolation tanks/check dams (9.3 percent), lakes (0.9 percent), and others (2.5 percent).

  • Andhra Pradesh has the highest number of tanks, while Tamil Nadu has the highest number of lakes, as per the census.

  • Maharashtra is the leading state in implementing water conservation schemes, according to the census.

10. 5th State Food Safety Index

  • Released by: Ministry of Health and Family Welfare

  • Kerala topped the list among larger states, followed by Punjab and Tamil Nadu.

  • Goa came out on top among smaller states, while Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, and Chandigarh ranked first, second, and third, respectively, among the union territories.
