NEET is the only way to get admission in MBBS in India. It is conducted every year for more than 20 lakh students vying for seats in government and private medical colleges. It is essential for every aspirant, be it from the General, OBC, SC, ST or EWS categories, to understand the minimum marks needed for NEET in their respective categories. The NEET cutoff is divided into two categories: one is the Qualifying Cutoff (the minimum percentile/rating to pass NEET), and the other is the Admission Cutoff (the minimum percentile/rating to get an MBBS seat). The NEET General cutoff is the highest among all categories. NEET: For general/UR students, the minimum qualifying marks will be calculated as per the 50th percentile. In the previous year of NEET 2025, the range for qualifying was 686-144 marks. To get an MBBS seat in the top government colleges, the General category candidates should score 600+ marks in AIQ (All India Quota) and 500-600 marks in State Quota.

NEET OBC Cutoff is a little lower than General, with the OBC candidates having to achieve the 40th percentile. The NEET-2025 qualifying range for OBC was 143-113 marks. The candidates who are filling government MBBS seats under the OBC reservation will need a 500–560 marks in AIQ. The minimum qualifying marks for NEET OBC is as per the constitutional reservation policy, which ensures medical education for every child.

The NEET SC and ST cutoff is one of the lowest that exists with the intention of inclusivity. Candidates of the SC (40th percentile) and ST (40th percentile) categories must get an admission cut-off in the range of 480-540 marks for Government MBBS seats, 400-500 marks for the ST category. The NEET SC ST reservation MBBS policy ensures 15% (SC) and 7.5% (ST) seats are reserved.

NEET EWS cut-off marks 2025 is the same as those of the general category (50 percentile, 144+ marks in NEET 2025). EWS or Economically Weaker Section was introduced in 2019. If the family income is less than or equal to ₹8 lakh per annum and is not covered under OBC/SC/ST, candidates can avail of 10% EWS reservation. Eligibility of NEET EWS category is provided with the issuance of a valid EWS certificate from any government body.

There is a major difference between the NEET marks required for a government medical college and a private college. The competition level of government colleges is high, particularly under 15% All India Quota (AIQ), which is managed by MCC. Norms are comparatively low in private colleges and there are chances of management quota seats even at 130–150 marks.

Since 2019, the NEET qualification is mandatory for MBBS abroad for Indian students. The NEET cut-off for MBBS abroad for Indian students is very low compared to India. The foreign universities usually have 140+ marks as acceptance criteria, and some countries have even accepted 120+ marks.
