The Toshakhana means the official kewat, at which the government keeps the gifts presented to Ministers, Members of Parliament, public servants and other officials of the government by foreign governments or dignitaries or as a result of their official visits. It is under the control of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) as per Toshakhana Rules, 2024.
All gifts received by an official are to be given in and placed in the basket unless exempted under the rules. Gifts are valued by a valuation committee, with eligible recipients keeping the gifts after paying the assessed value under the rules.
