India’s Traffic Chokehold: Bengaluru Ranks Second; Pune 5th in Global Congestion Index for 2025

The urban traffic crisis in India deteriorated, with Bengaluru city being ranked as the second most congested city in the world, second only to Mexico City, according to the TomTom Traffic Index 2025. The commuters in Bengaluru experienced extreme delays as the average speed during rush hours drastically reduced, and the motorists were stuck in the gridlocks for about 168 hours per year. • Rush hour travel time in Bengaluru was found to be on average 36 minutes and 9 seconds to travel 10 km, which was substantially slower than in previous years.

• In 2025, Bengaluru commuters were wasting around 168 hours a year in traffic jams, which is a higher equivalent of over 7 days lost.
