1. CAG-Bank of Baroda report on capex push in FY24

In the news:

• According to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) data by the Bank of Baroda economists, Indian states have been lagging behind the Centre in capex push in 2023-24 (FY24).
• During the April-November period, the Centre has spent 58.5% of its Rs 10 trillion capex target for FY24.
• 26 states cumulatively have spent 45% of the Rs 7 trillion target.
• The Centre had allotted ₹1.3 trillion for FY24 under the interest-free loans scheme for capital investment by states.
• Till November 2023, capex amounting to ₹97,374 crore has been approved and ₹ 59,030 crore released to the eligible states.

2. SBI research unit claim Income inequality declined

In the news:

• Income inequality has declined in India with a higher tax base and a shift in taxpayers from lower-income to higher-income tax brackets, according to the Economic Research Department of the State Bank of India (SBI).
• The unit also claimed that the K-shaped recovery was “prejudiced” and “ill-concocted”.
• The number of ITRs filed by people earning between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 25 lakh increased by 291%.
• 19.5% of small firms have transitioned into larger firms through MSME value chain integration.
• Female tax filers are around 15% of individual tax filers with certain states such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, and West Bengal having a higher share of female tax filers.

3. LIC to acquire 10% stake in National Housing Board-promoted company

• The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) board has approved acquiring up to 10% of a company promoted by the National Housing Bank (NHB).

5. Indigo ranks second in the world's top 20 airlines in growth of passenger seats

• According to OAG, an aviation analytics company, IndiGo's seats per day rose by 29.7% from 47,738 seats in December 2019 to 61,913 in December 2024.
