Unmesha International Literature Festival will be held in Patna from 25 to 28 September 2025, the third edition. The event will host over 500 writers and artists in over 15 countries, representing over 100 languages. Over a span of 4 days, the themes covered in close to 90 sessions will be contemporary literature, translation, feminism in writing, and the influence of literature in the construction of education and society. The festival serves to promote cultural diversity in India and the literary dialogue and exchange around the world.
To be held in Patna, 25 28 September 2025, in the Samrat Ashok Convention Centre.
Opened by the Governor of Bihar in the presence of prominent government personalities.
More than 550 authors, poets and academicians participated.
Themes such as translation, feminism, contemporary literature and education were discussed during the sessions.
Honoured great writers and cultural icons, as a way of showing their contribution to literature.
Encouraged linguistic and cultural diversity of India (100 or more languages).
Enhanced the image of Bihar as a literary and cultural exchange centre of the world.
Madhubani painting, Patna Kalam art, Tikuli work and Sujni embroidery are all part of the heritage of Bihar.
Famous handloom customs such as Bhagalpuri silk.
Significant festivals: Chhath Puja (worshipping of the Sun god), Makar Sankranti, Sama-Chakeva, Shravani Mela and Sonepur Mela (cattle fair of the largest scale in Asia).
Significant cultural heritage sites: Nalanda University ruins, Vikramshila, Bodh Gaya and Rajgir.
There is an international pilgrimage of fairs such as Pitrapaksha Mela in Gaya.
Bihar, represented by heritag, has folk music, Bhojpuri theatre and Maithili literature.
Unmesha 2025 in Patna ended as an excellent literary, language and cultural interface. The festival presented the diversity of Indian literature to the global community because it involved more than 550 authors in 15 countries and was representative of 100 languages. It established an avenue of discussion on translation, modern writing and social issues. Unmesha contributed to the position of India as an international literary cooperation and creativity hub by honouring the names of legendary writers and by reminding people of the cultural heritage of Bihar.
