The first national communications satellite, OmanSat-1, is one of the historic milestones of the country in the journey of space and digital transformation in the country. The satellite will be announced on 23 November 2025 and will be developed in cooperation with one of the largest aerospace manufacturers in the world in order to increase the technological capacity of Oman. OmanSat-1, which is based on a highly configurable platform and operates in the Ka-band, will provide high-capacity connectivity to the whole territory of the country, its economic waters, and adjacent territories. The satellite will enhance sovereignty in the digital space and rural communication services, government and business networks, and national objectives as part of Oman Vision 2040.
Oman collaborated with Airbus Defence and Space to design, manufacture and deploy OmanSat-1, the first national communications satellite in the country.
It is being constructed on the superior OneSat platform, which is entirely reconfigurable digitally in the air.
It will work on the Ka-band, and it will make the services of high-capacity and secure communication.
The coverage will go throughout Oman and its Exclusive Economic Zone as well as areas of the Middle East, East Africa, and Asia.
Space communications technologies (SCT) under the Oman Investment Authority spearhead the project.
There is a specially created project management office that organises the technical and administrative activity.
OmanSat-1 will increase the digital independence of the country, rural connectivity, and continuity in the essential services.
The mission is in line with Oman Vision 2040 and conforms to the long-term National Space Strategy of the country.
OmanSat-1 is also a technological breakthrough in the history of Oman that will enhance the digital sovereignty of the country and increase the possibilities of safe communication. Its launch success is an indication of increased interest by Oman in innovation, space development, and linking the entire country, and even the remote areas. OmanSat-1 is establishing the base of future space projects and national development in the long term as a part of Vision 2040.
