Namdapha Butterfly Festival is an ecotourism festival held in Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh, on 26 to 28 November 2025 at Khachang village near Namdapha National Park and Tiger Reserve. The festival is organised by the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in conjunction with local community groups, and it throws more emphasis on the marvellous biodiversity that Arunachal has to offer and promotes ecotourism. The festival attracts nature enthusiasts, scientists, and people in the area to observe over 500 different kinds of butterflies, among them the Kaiser-i-Hind, Blue Mormon, and Zig-zag Flat, which are rare. It also demonstrates the traditional culture and environmental consciousness and conservation by the local communities in the Eastern Himalayas.
Namdapha Butterfly Festival 2025 is to take place between 26 and 28 November in Khachang village along Namdapha National Park and Tiger Reserve, Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh.
Arranged by the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in partnership with local community groups and youth forums.
The festival also encourages ecotourism, conservation awareness, and cultural exchange through the active participation of the community.
The Namdapha National Park is a biodiversity hotspot in the world where there are more than 500 species of butterflies, some of which are very rare, such as the Kaiser-i-Hind, Blue Mormon, Zig-zag Flat, and Yellow-veined Lancer.
The event will consist of butterfly walks, photo exhibitions, awareness programs, and documentation events by experts and nature lovers.
The local homestays and villagers are also involved and exhibit the traditional art, food, and ways of sustainable living.
The festival is aimed at recognising the significance of conservation of the unique Himalayan ecosystem in Arunachal by community-driven conservation efforts.
