This is a great achievement for India as recently it has inked the Riyadh Design Law Treaty (DLT) under WIPO. This treaty specifically seeks to harmonize the manner of filing industrial designs in member nations by bringing down administrative formalities and promoting international IPR. In this context, by integrating with the international standard, India provides a further boost to act as a center for innovation and industrial design.
The Riyadh DLT could provide further improvement in business conditions for the Indian contenders, particularly those in design-sensitive industries such as the consumer good, textile, and auto sectors. More importantly the Indian firms can now apply at different jurisdictions for the same design at varying locations at once.
