About: BAFTA Award

The BAFTA Awards were first held in 1947 by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts to recognise excellence in cinema. The inaugural Best Film winner was Odd Man Out (1947). Over time, BAFTA has become one of the most respected film awards globally.

India has had a meaningful presence at BAFTA over the years. Legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray received the BAFTA Fellowship in 1985, the Academy’s highest honour. In 1983, Gandhi, a film based on Mahatma Gandhi and featuring Indian actors, won multiple BAFTAs, including Best Film.

Composer A. R. Rahman won Best Original Music in 2009 for Slumdog Millionaire. The same film also earned several BAFTAs that year. More recently, the Indian film RRR won Best Original Song in 2023 for “Naatu Naatu".

Conclusion (BAFTA Award 2026)

The BAFTA Awards 2026 once again highlighted the finest achievements in global cinema, celebrating bold storytelling, powerful performances, and technical excellence. From major headline wins to breakthrough talents, the ceremony reflected the evolving landscape of film and reinforced BAFTA’s role as a key marker of international cinematic success.
