1. UPI transaction rules 2024 applicable from January 1, 2024

• UPI transaction limit hiked for hospitals, schools to Rs 5 lakh from Rs 1 lakh earlier.
• NPCI asked banks and mobile payment applications to deactivate the UPI IDs and numbers of the accounts that have been inactive for one year.
• UPI Lite wallet's transaction limit increased from Rs 200 to Rs 500 (Maximum amount: Rs 2,000)
• UPI payments to Rs 1 lakh for credit card repayments, mutual fund subscriptions, and insurance premiums will no longer require an additional factor authentication.
• Interchange fee on UPI merchant payments:
• Imposition of a 1.1% interchange fee on UPI payments made by merchants.
• Fees will not be applicable if the money transferred is higher than Rs 2,000.

2. RBI proposes banks with less than 6% net NPAs to declare dividends

• As per the prevailing norms last updated in 2005, banks need to have an NNPA (Net NPA) ratio of up to 7% to become eligible for declaration of dividends.
• The Reserve Bank proposed allowing banks having net non-performing assets (NPAs) ratio of less than 6% to declare dividends.
• The new guidelines should come into effect from FY25 onwards.
• Commercial Bank: A minimum total capital adequacy of 11.5% to be eligible for declaring dividend
• Small Finance Banks and Payment Banks: 15%
• Local Area Banks and Regional Rural Banks: 9%
• Increasing the upper ceiling on dividend payout ratio: 50% from 40%

3. World's largest lithium deposit discovered in California's Salton Sea

• The US Department of Energy has discovered the world's largest lithium deposit beneath California's Salton Sea.
• It is containing an estimated 18 million tons of lithium.
• Total resources in the Salton Sea area could produce more than 3,400 kilotons of lithium, valued at upto $540 billion.
• This is enough to manufacture more than 375 million batteries for electric vehicles (EVs).
• Countries with the largest lithium reserves: Chile > Australia > Argentina
• Largest lithium-producing countries: Australia > Chile > China
• Use of Lithium:
• For making rechargeable batteries for mobile phones, laptops, digital cameras, and electric vehicles.
• To make non-rechargeable batteries for things like heart pacemakers, toys, and watches.

4. South Korea launches 'workation' visa for foreigners

• South Korea has introduced a new visa for foreigners allowing them to visit the country on a working holiday or workation.
• Its pilot project started on January 1, 2024.
• Eligible:
• Foreign nationals with an annual income twice as much as South Korea's per capita gross national income will be eligible to apply for the visa. (Last year, the country's GNI was $33,002.)
• The applicants must also have medical insurance of over 100 million won and must cover medical treatment and repatriation fees.
• They cannot be hired by any company in South Korea to work or undertake any profit-making activity.
• Valid for one year and can be extended for up to two years.

5. Govt to exempt Aadhaar-payment to MGNREGA workers in some cases

• The Centre would give specific exemptions from an Aadhaar-linked payment to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) workers.
• Wage payments under the MGNREGA scheme will be paid only through the Aadhaar-Based Payment System (ABPS).
• The system requires a worker's bank account and job card to be linked with Aadhaar.
• The Centre decided to make the wage payment of unskilled workers through ABPS mandatory to ensure the payment goes directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries, even in case of frequent change of bank accounts.

6. NEHHDC Established Ashtalaxmi Haat for Northeast Arts and Crafts

• Ashtlaxmi Haat, a dedicated marketplace and residency in Guwahati was established.
• Reason: Boost incomes for regional artisans
• Set up by: North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC)
• Cost: ₹7.6 crore
• It aims to showcase handicraft diversity from Northeast India’s eight states.

7. Punjab: First State To Map Accident-Prone Sites On Navigation Platform

• Punjab has become the first Indian state to comprehensively map all 784 accident-prone areas as 'black spots' on the navigation system.

• Launched as part of Punjab's flagship project, 'Road Safety Force'.

• It provides voice alerts in Punjabi.

1. यूपीआई लेनदेन नियम 2024 1 जनवरी 2024 से लागू

• अस्पतालों, स्कूलों के लिए UPI लेनदेन की सीमा पहले के 1 लाख रुपये से बढ़ाकर 5 लाख रुपये कर दी गई।
• एनपीसीआई ने बैंकों और मोबाइल भुगतान एप्लिकेशन से उन खातों की यूपीआई आईडी और नंबर को निष्क्रिय करने को कहा है जो एक साल से निष्क्रिय हैं।
• UPI लाइट वॉलेट की लेनदेन सीमा 200 रुपये से बढ़ाकर 500 रुपये (अधिकतम राशि: 2,000 रुपये)
• क्रेडिट कार्ड पुनर्भुगतान, म्यूचुअल फंड सदस्यता और बीमा प्रीमियम के लिए 1 लाख रुपये तक के यूपीआई भुगतान के लिए अब अतिरिक्त कारक प्रमाणीकरण की आवश्यकता नहीं होगी।
• UPI मर्चेंट भुगतान पर इंटरचेंज शुल्क:
• व्यापारियों द्वारा किए गए UPI भुगतान पर 1.1% इंटरचेंज शुल्क लगाना।
• यदि ट्रांसफर की गई धनराशि 2,000 रुपये से अधिक है तो शुल्क लागू नहीं होगा।

2. आरबीआई ने 6% से कम शुद्ध एनपीए वाले बैंकों को लाभांश घोषित करने का प्रस्ताव दिया है

• 2005 में अंतिम बार अद्यतन किए गए प्रचलित मानदंडों के अनुसार, बैंकों को लाभांश की घोषणा के लिए पात्र बनने के लिए 7% तक एनएनपीए (नेट एनपीए) अनुपात की आवश्यकता होती है।
• रिज़र्व बैंक ने 6% से कम शुद्ध गैर-निष्पादित परिसंपत्ति (एनपीए) अनुपात वाले बैंकों को लाभांश घोषित करने की अनुमति देने का प्रस्ताव रखा।
• नए दिशानिर्देश FY25 से लागू होने चाहिए।

3. कैलिफ़ोर्निया के साल्टन सागर में दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा लिथियम भंडार खोजा गया

• अमेरिकी ऊर्जा विभाग ने कैलिफोर्निया के साल्टन सागर के नीचे दुनिया के सबसे बड़े लिथियम भंडार की खोज की है।
• इसमें अनुमानित 18 मिलियन टन लिथियम है।
• साल्टन सागर क्षेत्र में कुल संसाधनों से 3,400 किलोटन से अधिक लिथियम का उत्पादन किया जा सकता है, जिसका मूल्य 540 बिलियन डॉलर तक है।

4. दक्षिण कोरिया ने विदेशियों के लिए 'वर्केशन' वीज़ा लॉन्च किया

• दक्षिण कोरिया ने विदेशियों के लिए एक नया वीज़ा पेश किया है जो उन्हें कामकाजी अवकाश या कार्यस्थल पर देश में आने की अनुमति देता है।

5. सरकार कुछ मामलों में मनरेगा श्रमिकों को आधार-भुगतान से छूट देगी

• केंद्र महात्मा गांधी राष्ट्रीय ग्रामीण रोजगार गारंटी अधिनियम (मनरेगा) श्रमिकों को आधार-लिंक्ड भुगतान से विशिष्ट छूट देगा।
• मनरेगा योजना के तहत मजदूरी भुगतान केवल आधार-आधारित भुगतान प्रणाली (एबीपीएस) के माध्यम से किया जाएगा।
• सिस्टम के लिए श्रमिक के बैंक खाते और जॉब कार्ड को आधार से जोड़ा जाना आवश्यक है।
• केंद्र ने एबीपीएस के माध्यम से अकुशल श्रमिकों के वेतन भुगतान को अनिवार्य बनाने का निर्णय लिया ताकि यह सुनिश्चित किया जा सके कि भुगतान सीधे लाभार्थियों के बैंक खातों में जाए, यहां तक कि बार-बार बैंक खाते बदलने की स्थिति में भी।

6. एनईएचएचडीसी ने पूर्वोत्तर कला और शिल्प के लिए अष्टलक्ष्मी हाट की स्थापना की
