1. RBI’s Analysis Report on Trend and Progress of Banking in India 2022-23

2. HDFC Bank Group gets RBI approval to acquire 9.5% stake each in six banks

• HDFC Bank Group has received the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) approval to acquire "aggregate holding" of up to 9.5% of the paid-up share capital or voting rights in six banks.
• These banks include Axis Bank, Survoday Small Finance Bank, ICICI Bank, Bandhan Bank, YES Bank, and IndusInd Bank.

3. RBI cancels licence of Jai Prakash Narayan Nagari Sahakari Bank

In the news:

• The RBI has canceled the licence of Jai Prakash Narayan Nagari Sahakari Bank Basmathnagar, Maharashtra, as the lender, with its present financial position, would be unable to pay its present depositors in full.
• On liquidation, every depositor would be entitled to receive a deposit insurance claim amount of his/her deposits up to a monetary ceiling of Rs 5 lakh from Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC).

4. LIC unveils Index Plus, offers life cover, savings for the plan term

• The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has introduced LIC Index Plus, a unit-linked, regular premium, individual life cover policy.
• The product is available for purchase from February 6, 2024.
• It offers life insurance and savings through the plan term.

5. Mumbai, Bengaluru in top 10 cities with highest home price rise in APAC

In the news:

• Mumbai and Bengaluru were among the 10 cities in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region that witnessed the highest rise in residential prices in the second half of 2023, a report released showed.
• The National Capital Region (NCR) featured on the 11th spot in the list of 25 countries in the region.
• Released by: Knight Frank’s Asia-Pacific Residential Review Index.
• The home prices in NCR rose 6 per cent Y-o-Y and it ranked 11th on the list.
• Notably, Mumbai, NCR, and Bengaluru constituted 60% of the total sales volume across India in 2023.
• In the region, Singapore saw the highest price rise of 13.7%.
• It was followed by 12.8% in Perth and 12.1% in Brisbane.

6. Lok Sabha clears J&K Local Bodies Laws (Amendment) Bill to provide reservation to OBCs

• Lok Sabha has passed The Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Caste Order (Amendment) Bill 2023 and The Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Tribes Order (Amendment) Bill, 2023.
• The Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Caste Order (Amendment) Bill adds Valmiki community as a synonym of Chura, Balmiki, Bhangi, and Mehtar communities.
• The Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Tribes Order (Amendment) Bill seeks to revise the list of Scheduled Tribes in J&K to include the Pahari community.
• Bill also adds the Gadda Brahman, the Paddari Tribe, and the Koli communities to the ST list of Jammu and Kashmir

7. L&T wins contract for Assam bridge, to boost link to textile hub Sualkuchi

In the news:

• The construction arm of Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) bagged a contract from the Assam government to build a 12.21 kilometres long bridge connecting Palashbari and Sualkuchi towns in Assam.
• The contract was awarded by the Public Works Roads Department, Assam, to construct the 'cable-stayed bridge' across the river Brahmaputra.
• Features of the bridge:
• The project will have a 3.6 km long cable-stayed bridge portion along with a 5.61 km approach on the Palashbari side.
• A 3 km approach on the Sualkuchi side including wetland approach viaducts.
• The maximum span of the extra-dosed cable-stayed portion will be 165 meters.
• A cable-stayed bridge structure is designed to minimise the impact of stormy winds as they are aerodynamic.
• Sualkuchi is considered the epicentre of the state's heritage textile centre.
• The town is famous for producing "golden silk" which is made with indigenous materials like Muga.

8. UP govt unveils Rs 7.36 lakh crore budget for 2024-25

• Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Khanna presented the annual budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 in the state Assembly, unveiling a significant financial plan amounting to Rs 7.36 lakh crore.
• Rs 4000 crore provision for free distribution of tablets and smart phones to youth
• Rs 2057 crore for Ganga Expressway project
• Rs 2500 crore for preparation of Maha Kumbh mela in the year 2025
• Rs 100 crore for overall development of Ayodhya

9. Haryana Approves Construction of 800MW Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant

• The work of 'Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant' in Yamunanagar, Haryana will commence soon.
• Capacity of 800 megawatts units.
• This project will help ensure an uninterrupted power supply for the residents of Haryana.
• The tender for the construction of the new 800-megawatt capacity Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant in Yamunanagar to Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).
• Cost: 6,900 crore rupees
• BHEL will complete this project within 57 months.
• This will reduce coal consumption and make electricity cheaper.
• Provision has also been made to install required devices to control pollution.
