1. Minister Bhupendra Yadav launches NTPS, a unified system for forest goods’ transport across India

In the news:

• The central government launched the National Transit Pass System (NTPS) to facilitate seamless transit of forest goods across the country through a single permit.
• This means that those in forest and agro-forestry business will no longer require permits from multiple states to transport their goods.
• Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupendra Yadav virtually flagged off a timber-laden truck from Gandhidham in Kutch district, Gujarat.
• The truck from Kutch, the westernmost district of India, is bound for West Bengal in the eastern part of the country.
• The truck from Jammu and Kashmir in north India will travel south and is bound for Tamil Nadu, the southern tip of the country.
• The NTPS will become a one-nation-one-pass regime in India for transporting forest products.
• NTPS is a web-portal as well as mobile application system, facilitating online filing of applications from anywhere in the country for seeking permission to transport forest products as well as for obtaining no-objection certificate (NOC).

2. Tata Memorial Hospital develops India’s first oral chemo drug for Leukaemia

In the news:

• Physicians from Tata Memorial Hospital and Advanced Centre for Training Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) have developed India’s first oral suspension of the chemotherapy drug — 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP), named PREVALL.
• This happened in collaboration with IDRS Labs, Bangalore.
• Aim: To revolutionise cancer treatment, specifically hematologic malignancies like Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL), providing a more precise and child-friendly alternative to traditional tablets.
• Mercaptopurine is a medication used in the treatment of certain types of cancer, particularly ALL.
• It belongs to the class of drugs known as antimetabolites, which interfere with the growth and division of cancer cells.
• PREVALL is easy to prepare — just mix it to make a 100 ml liquid with 10mg in each millilitre.
• It comes with a syringe and a Press In Bottle Adapter (PIBA) for precise dosing based on a patient’s weight or body surface area.

3. Women Make Up About 49% Of Ayushman Cards: Health Ministry

In the news:

• Women account for approximately 49% of the total Ayushman cards created and approximately 48% of total authorized hospital admissions.
• Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri - Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) is the largest publicly funded health assurance scheme in the world.
• It provides health cover of Rs 5 lakhs per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization.
• Currently, 55 Crore individuals corresponding to 12 Crore families are covered under the scheme.
• Many States/UTs implementing AB PM-JAY have further expanded the beneficiary base, at their own cost.
• Approximately 28.45 Crore Ayushman Cards have been created since the inception of the scheme, out of which, approximately 9.38 crore Ayushman Cards have been created during the current year 2023 (Jan -Dec 2023).
• A total of 6.11 crore hospital admissions amounting to Rs 78,188 crores have been authorized under the scheme of which 1.7 crore hospitals admissions worth over Rs 25,000 crores have been authorized during the year 2023 (Jan-Dec 2023).
• A total of 26,901 hospitals including 11,813 private hospitals have been empanelled under AB PM-JAY to provide healthcare services to scheme beneficiaries.
• AB PM-JAY has ensured gender equity in access to healthcare services.

• Insulin is a hormone that regulates blood glucose.

9. Maharashtra clears setting up of Maharashtra Drone Mission

• Maharashtra government has cleared the setting up of the Maharashtra Drone Mission (MDM) for the use of drone technology for functions ranging from security surveillance, rescue, and relief work during disasters, delivery of emergency medicines and vaccines to remote areas, monitoring of infrastructure projects and traffic management.
• A five-year implementation plan has been prepared based on a report by a team of experts from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Bombay which would be monitored by a Committee headed by the Chief Secretary.
