1. SEBI Proposes Two-Phase Transition to Instant Settlement in Indian Stock Market
In the news:
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) plans to implement instantaneous settlement of trades of T+O in two phases, and has floated a consultation paper, seeking comments on the same.
In phase 1, the regulator has proposed an optional T+0 settlement cycle (for trades till 1:30 pm), with settlement of funds and securities to be completed on the same day by 4:30 pm.
In phase 2, an optional immediate trade-by-trade settlement (funds and securities) may be carried out. In the second phase, trading will be carried out till 3.30 pm.
The market regulator is readying to bring in same-day trade settlement before the end of the current financial year.
Currently, trades in India are settled on a "T+1" basis. T+0 would mean settlements in the same day and instant settlement would ensure trades are settled immediately.
2. All-in-one insurance cover Bima Vistaar to be rolled out in Q1: Report
The first of its kind affordable insurance product covering risks against life, health, and property, is set to be rolled out in the first quarter of the next financial year.
The proposed all-in-one product will be known as ‘Bima Vistaar’.
The launch of Bima Vistaar is significant because it is part of the “Insurance Trinity," along with Bima Sugam, a one stop digital platform; and Bima Vahak, a woman led field distribution force.
These are all major components of IRDAI’s vision to achieve insurance for all by 2047 while bridging the existing gaps in product design, pricing, and distribution, among others.
The launch of Bima Vistaar will also bring Bima Vahak, the women-led insurance distribution channel.
The guidelines for putting the channel in place have already been issued, and the regulator said the Bima Vahak guidelines will come into effect with the rollout of Bima Vistaar.
3. French President Emmanuel Macron to Grace India’s Republic Day
In the news:
French President Emmanuel Macron will visit India as Chief Guest for the 75th Republic Day celebrations.
This will be the sixth time a French leader will be the Chief Guest at the R-Day celebrations.
While Macron had last visited India during the G20 summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made a stopover in Paris on May 4, 2022, on his way back from Denmark, to meet President Macron, thus becoming the first world leader to meet the French President after he won his second term on April 17, 2022.
New Delhi had to scramble to find a new chief guest after Washington said that Biden was not available.
Indian Ambassador to France Javed Ashraf, who has developed a strong rapport with the French Presidency, is learned to have swung the confirmation within a short period.
4. Dr. V Mohini Giri: A Champion for Women’s Rights Passes Away at 86
Renowned women’s rights activist Dr V Mohini Giri died following a brief illness. She was 86.
Dr Giri was the former Chair of the National Commission for Women (NCW) (1995–1998) and of the Central Social Welfare Board.
She was also the Chairperson of the Guild of Service, a New Delhi–based social service organisation, which provides advocacy for women’s and children’s rights for education, employment, and financial security.
She founded the War Widows Association in 1972. For her efforts in the field of women’s rights, she was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2007.
The daughter-in-law of former President Dr V V Giri, Dr Mohini Giri is survived by a son and daughter.
5. Central Railways To Add Panic Switches At 117 Stations
In the news:
The Central Railway will be installing panic switches at 117 railway stations on its network.
Central Railway general manager Ram Karan Yadav said two panic switches will be installed on each platform at 117 stations.
In case of emergency, a passenger can press the button to seek help from the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
The Central Railway has signed an MoU with RailTel for the installation.
On pressing the panic button, the RPF control will get an alert and immediate help will be sent to the passengers by checking the CCTV.
The work is expected to be complete within a year.
All ladies coaches in the CR's local trains in Mumbai will get emergency talkback system and CCTV cameras by March 2024.
Of 771 ladies coaches, 512 coaches already have the emergency talkback system and 421 coaches have CCTV.
6. Poet Sukrita Paul Kumar Wins Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize for ‘Salt & Pepper’

8. Sakshi Malik Quits After Election Of New Wrestling Federation Chief
Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik, a bronze medalist at the 2016 Rio Olympics, declared her retirement in protest of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).
The move follows allegations of sexual abuse against the ousted president, Brij Bhushan Singh, and the controversial election of his close ally, Sanjay Singh.
Sakshi Malik, a vocal advocate against harassment in Indian sports, led protests earlier in the year, demanding accountability for Singh’s alleged sexual misconduct towards female wrestlers.
Charges filed in June accused Singh of harassing six athletes, including a minor, during his tenure as WFI chief.

10. Manipur Initiates SAANS Campaign 2023-24 For Pneumonia Prevention

In a significant move aimed at addressing childhood pneumonia, Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, the State Health and Family Welfare Minister of Manipur, recently inaugurated the SAANS Campaign 2023-24 in Imphal.
Concurrently, the minister also dedicated the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) as the State Newborn Resource Centre, emphasizing the state’s commitment to child healthcare.
SAANS, which stands for Social Awareness and Action to Neutralize Pneumonia, is an annual campaign implemented in states and Union Territories.
The primary objective of SAANS is to accelerate action against childhood pneumonia, a leading cause of child mortality.

डॉ. गिरी राष्ट्रीय महिला आयोग (एनसीडब्ल्यू) (1995-1998) और केंद्रीय समाज कल्याण बोर्ड की पूर्व अध्यक्ष थीं।
वह नई दिल्ली स्थित सामाजिक सेवा संगठन, गिल्ड ऑफ सर्विस की अध्यक्ष भी थीं, जो महिलाओं और बच्चों के शिक्षा, रोजगार और वित्तीय सुरक्षा के अधिकारों की वकालत करती है।

5. मध्य रेलवे 117 स्टेशनों पर पैनिक स्विच जोड़ेगा

आपात स्थिति में यात्री रेलवे सुरक्षा बल (आरपीएफ) से मदद मांगने के लिए बटन दबा सकता है।
