The Govt Cuts Subsidised LPG Cylinders Under Ujjwala Scheme has emerged as one of the key topics for the millions of beneficiaries in India. The refurbished policy will now propose to provide subsidies for only four LPG cylinders per year to eligible households that are enrolled in the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), as compared to the previous policy, which covered a total of nine cylinders. This will rationalise the expenditure of subsidy and work towards supporting economically weaker households. Meanwhile, the government has also stated that it will work on the Ujjwala Scheme as well to ensure that the clean cooking gas supply remains for the eligible LPG families at an affordable price. It is, therefore, important that beneficiaries are aware of what’s happening and why so that they can deal with the new reality and how it affects them.<\/span><\/p>\n The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is one of the biggest social welfare programs launched by the government for delivering clean cooking fuel to economically weaker sections. The scheme was launched in 2016 by the government to minimise utilisation of traditional fuels like cow dung, firewood and coal. PMUY provides eligible women belonging to poor families with an LPG connection to provide cleaner indoor air, which helps in improving their health conditions as per the PMUY scheme. This has led to millions of families adopting cleaner, safer methods of cooking.<\/span><\/p>\n The announcement to cut Subsidised LPG Cylinders under the Ujjwala Scheme from 9 to 4 per annum has mostly been attributed to two objectives: efficiency of subsidy management and fiscal control.<\/span><\/p>\n The Government scrutinises welfare schemes from time to time to make sure that targets are properly met and that there is financial viability.
