According to estimates by international <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"organisations\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_US\" data-wsc-id=\"mncsf6145dhtsao6z\">organisations<\/span> such as the World Health <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"Organisation\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_US\" data-wsc-id=\"mncsf613pv8uwejc3\">Organisation<\/span> and UNICEF, the majority of maternal deaths occur in developing countries, such as India. Despite the gradual improvement in the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) in the country, there are several challenges that the country still faces. There is still limited access to quality healthcare, malnutrition, and regional inequalities. Maternal mortality reduction is fundamental to meet the Sustainable Development Goals and provide women in the country with improved health and well-being.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\">India\u2019s Share in Global Maternal Deaths: Data, Causes &amp; Key Facts<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">India contributes a notable share (around 10\u201312%) to total maternal deaths worldwide.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Maternal mortality includes deaths caused by pregnancy, childbirth, or complications after delivery.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">According to the World Health <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"Organisation\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_US\" data-wsc-id=\"mncsf6fzv6i5pjemh\">Organisation<\/span>, nearly 260,000 women die globally each year due to maternal causes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">India\u2019s Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) has reduced to about 97 per 100,000 live births (2018\u201320).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Recent estimates suggest further improvement to around 80\u201393 per <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"lakh\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_US\" data-wsc-id=\"mncsf6u09nm68a744\">lakh<\/span> live births.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The country has shown major progress, reducing MMR from 384 in 2000
